41st Greatest of the Grape: Oregon's Oldest Wine Celebration

As written in an article from the News Review:

The Umpqua Valley Winegrowers Association (UVWA) will present the 41st annual Greatest of the Grape celebration on Sat., March 5, 7:00-11:00 p.m., at the Seven Feathers Casino Resort & Spa in Canyonville. Under the theme, “…and Let there be Wine!” the event features the finest vintages from 28 Umpqua Valley and other southern Oregon wineries, perfectly paired with culinary creations from 14 of the region’s best restaurants.
In 1970 Richard Sommer, father of the Oregon wine industry and the first to plant Pinot Noir here, thought local wines should be shared and enjoyed with just the right foods. The Greatest of the Grape started then and has held every year since.
Wine entries will be professionally judged prior to the event by well-known wine experts and winners announced that evening. Guests are encouraged to sample different types of wines and to vote for their favorites and the best wine/food pairing in the People’s Choice Award category.
A portion of the event proceeds will be donated to th Sylvia Henry Memorial Scholarship which is awarded to Oregon students studying viticultlure and enology.  Visit http://www.umpquavalleywineries.org/ for more information.

Pyrenees Vineyard & Cellars: A Taste of Northern Spain in the Umpqua Valley

Pyrenees Vineyard and Cellars is set against the South Umpqua River with 30 acres of lush grapes nestled against the foothills. The Apodaca's rich heritage from Northern Spain brings the Basque influence into the winery.  The Basque-style tasting room is cozy and the staff will welcome you like old friends and take you through their vast variety of wine selections.  On a warm day sit on the deck and enjoy the view of the mountains and river.  Pyrenees Vineyard and Cellars offers year round special events.  My husband and I enjoyed a summer evening at the vineyard sipping wine, enjoying sushi and dancing on the deck to a live band.
Weddings at Pyrenees often take place on the 150 foot deck that straddles the Umpqua River.

Weddings at Pyrenees ofen take place on the 150 foot deck that straddles the  Umpqua River.  Dick Calafato is the managing owner of the winery and has been quoted as the "modern day cupid."   He feels that it is possible to have an incredible and memorable wedding without breaking the bank.   Up to 200 guests can witness a couple tie the knot against a backdrop of grape vines or the tumbling Umpqua River. A case of personalized wine is included and the total cost is $500.
Come join us on March 5, 2011 for the 41st Greatest of the Grape at Seven Feathers Resort and Casino from 7 to 11 pm.  Pyrenees Vineyard along with Mark V Restaurant will entice your taste buds while I talk about the health benefits of wine!

The River Rock Spa: an Oasis in Douglas County

River Rock Spa

I recently spent a glorious afternoon at River Rock Spa at Seven Feathers Casino and Resort. For those that have been to the spa....need I say more! The setting is absolutely beautiful.  The natural stone, warm woods, and sound of flowing waters truly let my stress melt immediately away.  From the warm welcome to the cozy robe to the candlelight stone soaking tub....I felt very well cared for!

My massage therapist worked out those tension spots in my shoulders and then delivered me to the beautiful sitting area with fruit infused ice water and a healthy snack.

Next......a Youth Renew Facial with Caviar Extract, Pearl Extract, and phyto-nutrients.  An oxygenating mask was placed on my face while the aesthetician then massaged may arms and legs.....heaven on earth!  Truly enjoyed my afternoon at the spa.......and ready to go back very soon!  Thank you to the staff that made my afternoon fabulous and thank you to River Rock Spa for being one of my sponsors for Mrs. Douglas County International!
